Around the house

Internal succession planning seems to be in the air the start of this year, as a number of internal promotions are highlighted around the house.

PDC Energy has chosen its next general counsel, tapping Nicole Martinet to succeed Dan Amidon, who is retiring. The Nasdaq-listed company is promoting Ms Martinet, the company’s associate general counsel, to the position of general counsel and corporate secretary, effective January 1, 2019. In her new role, she will be responsible for corporate and tactical legal initiatives, governance for the board of directors and other related duties. She has been associate general counsel since March 2011.

Another succession has taken place at Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), which has recruited internally for new general counsel. John Corse succeeds Dan Gahagan, who is retiring. Mr Corse is appointed to the post of vice president and general counsel. He most recently served as associate general counsel for BGE’s parent company Exelon, where he oversaw litigation activities for many of Exelon’s operating companies, including BGE, Pepco, Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric.

The heating, ventilation and air-conditioning company Comfort Systems USA general counsel has moved into an operations role, leading to an internal succession. Trent McKenna leaves his current role as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary to take on a regional operations role. Laura Howell is to take over the top legal post. She joins as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective January 1, 2019. Ms Howell has served as the company’s associate general counsel since January 1, 2018 and served as senior counsel for corporate from November 2014 to December 2017.

A couple of moves in the health industry has also taken place. Analytics 4 Life, a private digital health company focused on improving diagnostic pathways, has announced William Revelos is to become their vice president and general counsel. He is an experienced medical device attorney.

North Carolina-based Health Care System has hired Frank Emory as their new CLO. He joins from his position as partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth. Mr Emory is appointed executive vice president and chief legal officer, overseeing the legal, government relations, risk management, corporate audit and compliance teams, reporting directly to CEO Carl Armato. Mr Emory replaces Peter Brunstetter.

Lastly, taking her departure is the general counsel of St. Louis-based Huttig Building Products. Rebecca Kujawa is leaving the company at the end of the month, according to an SEC filing. She joined Huttig in 2014 as vice president, chief lawyer and secretary. She was promoted to senior vice president of supply chain and GC in January 2018. Ms Kujawa, is leaving the company at the end of the month.
