Apple has hired Kate Adams, formerly senior vice president and general counsel of Honeywell, as its general counsel and senior vice president of Legal and Global Security, reporting to CEO Tim Cook and serving on Apple’s executive team. She will replace Bruce Sewell, who has served as Apple’s general counsel since 2009, will be retiring at the end of the year. Before joining Honeywell in 2003, Ms Adams was a partner at Sidley Austin in New York. Earlier in her career, she served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
Meanwhile Honeywell announced it had promoted Anne Madden go succeed Kate Adams as senior vice president and general counsel. Ms Madden has served as vice president of corporate development and global head of M&A since 2002. Prior to her current role, Ms Madden served as vice president and deputy general counsel for the Performance Materials and Technologies business group and beofre that at New York law firm Shearman & Sterling where she focused on M&A and corporate finance. She started her career as an auditor in the financial services group of KPMG Peat Marwick in New York.
Shipbuilding company Hyundai Heavy Industries has appointed Seong Soo Kim as its international general counsel. Seong Soo Kim joins the company from South Korean firm One Law Partners. He was previously at Baker & McKenzie where he was a banking and finance partner. Prior to that, he worked at South Korean firm Kim & Chang.He joins the company to replace Jun Hee Kim who went to law firm White & Case.
Paul Loftus has been promoted to head of legal for banking products and propositions at Barclays which has created a new senior in-house legal role at its retail banking franchise Barclays UK. Mr Loftus worked at the bank for 13 years as head of legal for banking and customer and client experience and director of litigation and special investigations for the bank’s retail and business division. Prior to this, he worked at Clifford Chance. in his new role he reports to Barclays UK general counsel Stephanie Pagni.
