Garrigues has hired Barbara Vera to strengthen and lead the firm's labour and employment law department in Chile.
Ms Vera has more than 10 years’ experience in labour law in the Chilean market. She previously worked in the labour departments of the Claro and Carey law firms and was also the head of the department at Codelco, one of the largest Chilean groups where she advised on individual and collective labour law matters. She has also been an international consultant on Chilean labour law for the Inter-American Development Bank.
Commenting on the appointment, Luis Felipe Merino, managing partner of Garrigues Chile, said hiring Ms Vera was 'a clear step forward in our strategy to consolidate our position as the leading corporate legal advisory firm in Chile. Labour law is a key area in the business world in which our clients operate and Garrigues wants to have a labour law practice in Chile that is at the same level as the other areas.' Garrigues has more than 30 lawyers in Chile and over 120 in Latin America, where it operates in Bogota (Colombia), Lima (Peru), Mexico City (Mexico), and São Paulo (Brazil), as well as in Santiago de Chile.
